Homemade tobacco syrup

Dave Mitton’s recipe, good for 12 oz: Pour 12 oz of aged rum into a saucepan and add 6 oz of raw sugar. Put on medium heat and bring to a boil. Stir until the sugar is dissolved — but if the alcohol catches fire, cover the saucepan with the lid to put out the flame. Then simmer for 10-20 minutes. Remove from heat and strain through a sieve filled with 2 oz of pipe tobacco, into another saucepan. Repeat this procedure several times until the syrup absorbs the tobacco flavor, making sure that tobacco doesn’t get into the syrup. Cool, bottle and store in the refrigerator for no longer than a month.
